Great Britain Celebrates Victory in Zanussi Restaurant Challenge 2006 in Nicosia
Great Britain Team faced a strong challenge from Cyprus National Team, and German Magic Team to win the first ever – Zanussi Restaurant Challenge 2006 Hot International Competition staged during the Mediterranean Culinary Challenge 2006 held in Nicosia from 16-19 February 2006.
Six National and Regional teams from Germany, Cyprus, Greece, Serbia & Montenegro, Israel and Great Britain served up a three course menu for 60 people.
The Zanussi Restaurant Challenge was the focal point of all the competitions during the three day gastronomic extravaganza. The Restaurant Challenge was sponsored by Zanoussi & Electrolux.

Judges commended with the following results:
Great Britain, Gold and over all winner. Cyprus National Team Gold Medal German Magic Team Silver Medal Israel National Team Silver Medal Greece Bronze Medal Serbia & Montenegro Diploma
All teams prepared and served a three course menu for 60 people, with the British team cooking a main course of Honey and Mead Marinated Fillet and Slow Cooked Spiced Belly of Pork, Fondant Potatoes and Plum Scented Jus.
The Cypriot team prepared Roasted tenderloin of milk fed veal with sweetbread and wild mushroom coating. Foie gras bombote and thyme scented jus, and the Magic Team from Germany prepared Quail breast in chard with qooseliver Balsamiko Honey Jus, Baby leek foam kraut of beetroots, puree made of parsley glaced vegetables and chestnuts polenta.
The winning British menu comprised a starter of Pan Seared Halibut fillet with Parsnip Puree Herb Coulis, Balsamic and sherry Vinaigrette.

Rich Chocolate & Pecan Brownie with Passion fruit Custard & Vanilla Ice cream.
The British team was managed by Mark Sweeney, and other team members were Stew Harmer, Richie Holmes, Alan Davies, John Creasey, and Pastry Chef Richie Taylor.
Greek Team Manager Protopsaltis Anastasios said we are proud to have taken part in the Mediterranean Culinary Challenge 2006 in Nicosia, the hospitality of the organizers and Cyprus Chefs Association was outstanding, Cyprus despite his size show that in a few years this competition will become an event that all countries in south Europe and Middle East will be interest to be part.
It was a very close competition with Britain the deserved winners. Said Mr. Armand Steinmetz Président du Vatel-Club Luxembourg. Cyprus and German teams were very close behind.
The Mediterranean Culinary Challenge and particular Zanussi Restaurant Challenge have been a great success thanks to all sponsors and particular from Zanussi & Electrolux.
